I didn’t mind Lewis when his songs first came out. But now that he’s taken the “Overplayed to the Absolute Death” award away from Ed Sheeran, I can’t stand hearing his songs. The wailing goes through me and I have to find a new radio station to put on until his caterwauling is over. I get it’s not his fault that he’s overplayed, but he could’ve made less depressing songs to be played at the very least.

The album follows one theme of love but takes the tracks on different routes with it. The first track, grace, shows Lewis on the brink of nothing but someone pulls him away from it and he doesn’t know what to do if he lost them. The second track, bruises, explores the effect a failed relationship has on someone with the bad advice his friends give him “I’ve been told to get you off my mind” to hoping he learns something from the failed attempt “but I hope I never lose the bruises that you left behind” The third track, hold me while you wait, shows Lewis believing that his most recent failed relationship was his fault because he wasn’t good enough The fourth track someone you loved follows what Lewis is doing after a relationship and how he copes after “he was getting kinda used to being” in a relationship with something to fall back on The fifth track shows Lewis failing to meet expectations and messing up with nobody to blame but himself “maybe I’m the only one who ever seems to get in my way” The sixth song, forever is about Lewis supporting someone who he has broken up with saying “nobody said that it would last forever” but that doesn’t change that what they had was real The seventh song one flips his usual style of talking about what happens after a relationship to taking to someone who lost the girl he is going out with “how could you let something so good go to waste” “you must be so hard to please” and thinks him for the happiness his mistakes got for himself The eighth track named don’t get me wrong is a slow track but not without meaning like the other songs on this album, the song don’t get me wrong follows an empty relationship where Lewis intentionally leads a girl on but gets caught up in it. The song Hollywood the ninth track is an upbeat song where Lewis looks back on the mistakes he made in a relationship but is hopeful for the future of the relationship “if you can hear me does it really have to end?” The tenth song lost on you is a massive change from the song before it, and inside lost on you it handles the theme of breaking up with someone you still care about as he is forced to start “giving up on the life lived after” The eleventh song fade has a powerful chorus “and I know that we’ve been hardly holding on, tell truth I can’t believe we’ve got this far” showing how desperate the relationship is but he can’t believe how he got “so caught up” in need of his girl The twelfth song called headspace is the longest song on the album and wraps up the whole album on a familiar note to most people as he says “I never thought that a lie could sound so sweet until you opened your mouth and said you loved me” showing how he knew that the relationship was a lie and always going to fail but went along with it anyway The album in general has great vocals and mixing and is a 9 to 10 on the production standpoint but the incredibly well made and well crafted lyrics across the album put most albums currently to shame I bought this album after only hearing two songs but I grew to love each one of them in their own way my top songs that I enjoy are forever, Hollywood someone you loved and hold me while you wait, while the song I liked the least was headspace as it struggled a bit with pacing and feels a little slow at points that doesn’t mean I don’t like it, because I do, but it could be stronger. Overall I would rate this album from a decent or strong nine to a ten would definitely recommend to someone interested with music with meaning
