Live Reporting

All times stated are UK

  1. Four becomes two

So, after just over a month of European qualifiers, we have two teams progressing into the play-off round of the Europa League as Kilmarnock and Aberdeen drop out.

    Can they both get through?

Thumbs up for yes, thumbs down for no…

  2. And Rangers, Michael?

    FT: Rangers 3-1 Midtjylland (7-3)

  3. ‘Shot themselves in the foot’

    FT: Aberdeen 0-2 Rijeka (0-4)

  4. Meanwhile…

    FT: Aberdeen 0-2 Rijeka (0-4)

It says a lot for the standard of the second half that there was just one shot at goal and two corners – all from Rijeka.Though that was still a better second-half showing from Aberdeen than the first one, which is about as positive as you can be.

  5. Rangers having fun in Europe

    FT: Rangers 3-1 Midtjylland (7-3)

  6. Legia Warsaw next

    FT: Rangers 3-1 Midtjylland (7-3)

While others seem to be stuttering in Europe, if anything Rangers are getting stronger.

Progres Niederkorn were held off with relative easy, and over the 180 minutes against Midtjylland Steven Gerrard’s men looked in complete control. The response to losing the odd goal in both legs will please the Rangers manager.

Now just two games against Legia Warsaw stand between them and the Europa League group stage.

  7. ‘Rijeka worthy winners’

    FT: Aberdeen 0-2 Rijeka (0-4)

    Mark Reynolds

    Former Aberdeen defender on Sportsound

Quote Message: There was a game plan there but they couldn’t have got off to a worse start by losing a goal, then a player, then another goal… Rijeka are a good side and took their goals well. They’ve been in control of the game, dictated the game and the pace. Worthy winners on the night again.

  8. A night to forget

    FT: Aberdeen 0-2 Rijeka (0-4)

The boos rang out at Pittodrie after a night to forget for Aberdeen as they crashed out of the Europa League.

The Dons needed to be full of energy, clinical up front and solid at the back – they were none of the above. Everything that could go wrong for them, did.

The only positive was that Rijeka eased off a bit after the break.

Derek McInnes will now need to ensure there is no hangover from this continental home humbling when they return to domestic matters at Dundee in the League Cup on Sunday.

  9. FULL-TIME

    Rangers 3-1 Midtjylland (7-3)

  10. FULL-TIME

    Aberdeen 0-2 Rijeka (0-4)

  11. Three minutes to go at Pittodrie

    Aberdeen 0-2 Rijeka (0-4)

Happy hour on Union Street is three minutes away from taking a somber twist..

  12. Arfield class

    Rangers 3-1 Midtjylland (7-3)

Almost goal of the night at Ibrox. Great build up play eventually results in a pull back from Jordan Jones on the right. It’s a bit behind Scott Arfield, but the former Burnley man flicks his boot out as he tries a back heel goal. Unfortunately for him, Hansen saves.

  13. Morelos crashes out at Ibrox

    Rangers 3-1 Midtjylland (7-3)

Worrying scenes at Ibrox. Alfredo Morelos runs on to a through pass from Greg Docherty with a prodded shot well saved. However, his momentum takes him beyond the byeline and crashing off the park.

Jermain Defoe replaces the Colombian who receives a standing ovation as he walks back around the pitch.

  14. Miller counting down the seconds…

    Aberdeen 0-2 Rijeka (0-4)

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Radio Scotland

Quote Message: It’s difficult to find anything to talk about positively in terms of Aberdeen’s performance. Simply because they’re just sitting back, not making any real effort to get up the park like it’s a training session for them. The manager has decided, and I think the fans have decided now as well, it’s time to leave. Our producer should probably be thinking along the same lines.

  15. Any guesses?

    Aberdeen 0-2 Rijeka (0-4)

Curtis Main receives the ball a couple of yards inside his own half, turns and volleys the ball forward, which, eventually, makes its way towards the Rijeka goalkeeper.

What he was trying is anyone’s guess. Does it count as an attempt at goal?

  16. Horror tackle

    Rangers 3-1 Midtjylland (7-3)

Ouch. Sory Kaba for Midtjylland is booked for a late, late challenge on Allan McGregor. The ball is loose and the Rangers keeper goes down to smother, but Kaba doesn’t hold back with a crunching boot to the chest. No complaints with a booking, arguably should have been a red.

  17. Players given up?

    Aberdeen 0-2 Rijeka (0-4)

    Mark Reynolds

    Former Aberdeen defender on Sportsound

Quote Message: The game has just lost any energy, it’s almost a training match. Both teams have likely got an eye on the weekend and are trying to save their legs. It seems as though they’ve both accepted the tie is over, there’s not much left in it and let’s just run the clock down.

  18. goal

    GOAL Rangers 3-1 MIDTJYLLAND (7-3)

    Evander Da Silva Ferreira

A ball in from the right from Mabil is not picked up by Rangers, with Evander Da Silva Ferreira turning the ball in from close range.

  19. Sloppy stuff from Aberdeen

    Aberdeen 0-2 Rijeka (0-4)

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Radio Scotland

Quote Message: It’s to be expected. It’s difficult for the Aberdeen players to get themselves up for it. When Rijeka get the ball they’re pretty confident on it, but when Aberdeen get it there’s a nervousness in the build-up play from them. You have to expect that with the way the game has gone, being down to 10 men and the atmosphere inside Pittodrie tonight. I expected a lively crowd but it’s anything but.

  20. ‘Sixty two going home happy’

    Aberdeen 0-2 Rijeka (0-4)

There are 15,246 fans at Pittodrie tonight – 62 of them will be going home happy – the small band of Rijeka supporters who have made the trip to Scotland. They are making plenty of noise, and must be pinching themselves about how well tonight has gone for their side.
